About the workshop

Scholarly events such as conferences, workshops, and symposia are more than platforms for exchange. They shape research communities, foster networking, and act as seedbeds for publications and collaborations. Despite this, data about these events often remains unreachable or fragmented. Libraries have so far built little dedicated infrastructure for event-based data, even though they could support it through current research information systems and other tools.

The workshop Beyond Books is a collaboration between the FID Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, the FID Linguistik, ConfIDent (TIB Hannover), and the VDB Fachreferatskommission. It examines the role of scholarly events in research communication, research assessment, and infrastructure. The workshop targets library subject specialists and offers space for exchange, input, and discussion on the future of event data.

The workshop is a free online course. Participants can request a certificate of attendance from the VDB Fachreferatskommission.
