Panel discussion
The SYoS panel discussion, Responsible research assessment: Challenges and perspectives, focuses on the current transformation of research assessment. Universities, research institutions, and funding organisations are working to reconcile strategic management, evaluation of research performance, and recognition of the diverse contributions scholars make to society.
The discussion brings together perspectives from bibliometrics, scientometrics, research administration, funding organisations, and university faculty. Topics include the interplay between quantitative indicators and qualitative peer review, the balance between comparability and sensitivity to disciplinary and institutional contexts, and ways to recognise contributions such as Open Science, knowledge transfer, teaching, team science, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Workshop no 7
SYoS Workshop no 7 is jointly organised by the ETH Library and the University of Bern. During the workshop, results from a survey conducted within the NAIF project will be presented and discussed. As part of Track 1, the study examined whether and to what extent Swiss higher education institutions use quantitative scientometric indicators (QSIs) in recruitment processes, evaluations, and institutional management.
The aim is to develop a shared understanding of the findings and to explore their implications for the Swiss higher education landscape. Participants will draw potential conclusions and formulate recommendations on the responsible use of QSIs in research assessment and university governance.
